At Uncanny Details, we facilitate the acquisition of unique, high-value contemporary art and professional design services. Art is a personal and significant investment. Because of the bespoke and fragile nature of our inventory, and because we represent independent artists and manage high-value physical logistics, our returns and refund policy is strictly structured to ensure, and protect, the sustainability of the art ecosystem, our partner artists’ careers and the integrity of the works we represent.
By using this site, accessing our website or engaging our services, you are entering into a legal agreement with Uncanny Details LTD, and you agree to the following terms and policies:
1. The "Final Sale" Default
Due to the unique and fragile nature of contemporary art, unless otherwise stated in a specific written agreement, all sales of original artwork, limited editions, and physical goods are considered final once the artwork has been dispatched from our gallery, or the artist's studio, or it's specific storage space.
- No "Buyer’s Remorse": We do not offer refunds or exchanges based on "Buyer’s Remorse", or a change of heart, or changes in personal taste, or a realization that a piece does not fit a specific space. We encourage all collectors to also utilize our Space Styling and Art Consultancy services prior to purchase to ensure you understand how and where the art pieces fit before finalizing on your commitment.
2. Limited Exceptions (Return Window)
In exceptional circumstances, and at the sole discretion of Uncanny Details LTD, a return may be considered for digital gallery (portal) purchases without prior physical viewing. We offer a 48-hour "Inspection Window"::
- Request Period: You must notify Uncanny Details in writing within 48 hours of delivery, if you believe there is a substantial discrepancy between the digital representation and the physical work. Or if you wish to request a return.
- Strict Condition Requirements: The artwork must be returned in its exact original condition and in its original specialized crating. Any sign of handling, mounting, or exposure to smoke/light will void the return.
- Discretionary Approval: Any return requested within this window is subject to the sole approval of Uncanny Details LTD.
3. Strictly Non-Refundable Items, Services & Costs
The following categories are strictly Non-Refundable, and are absolutely exempt from returns or refunds:
- Commissioned works: Bespoke art created for you, or any piece created specifically for a client is a final commitment.
- Professional Fees: Fees for Art Valuation, Interior Design Consultancy, and Space Styling, are for professional time and expertise rendered, and are non-refundable.
- Art Leasing: Whether hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, quarterly, (or on any other period or time or otherwise agreed on schedule), art leasing payments are non-refundable once the term has commenced.
- Logistics Costs: Shipping fees, insurance fees, specialized crating charges, and statutory export permit fees (such as NCMM clearances) are paid to third parties and cannot be recovered.
4. Condition & Restocking Protocols
If a return is exceptionally authorized by our team:
- The "Original State" Rule: The artwork must be returned in its exact original condition. Any evidence of mounting, framing, hanging, or exposure to environmental contaminants (smoke, moisture, direct sunlight) will void the refund.
- Original Packaging: The work must be returned in its original specialized crating.
- Restocking Fee: A 21% Restocking & Admin Fee will be deducted from the refund to cover the labor of professional re-inspection, insurance adjustments, and inventory management.
- The buyer solely is responsible for all return shipping and insurance costs.
5. Damaged Shipments
The only instance where a full refund or replacement is guaranteed is in the event of transit damage. We take immense pride in our logistics, but in the rare event that our authorized third-party carrier mishandles a shipment:
- Immediate Documentation: You must photograph the damaged packaging before opening and the damaged artwork immediately after.
- Notification: You must document and report the damage with photos of the packaging and the artwork within 24 hours of receipt.
- Insurance Claim: We will file a claim with the logistics partner’s insurance.
- Resolution: We will coordinate with the logistics provider’s insurance. Once the claim is verified, we will offer – at our discretion – a professional restoration, a replacement (if applicable), or a full refund including original shipping costs.
6. Return Logistics & Risk
For any authorized return, the Buyer assumes all cost and risk:
- Return Shipping: The Buyer must pay for return transit using a carrier and crating standard equal to or better than the original delivery.
- Insurance: The Buyer must insure the return shipment for its full declared value. If the work is damaged during its return journey, no refund will be issued, and the Buyer must seek recourse through their chosen insurance provider.
